Recover Your Forgotten SASSA Phone Number – Step-by-Step Guide. Has your contact information or mobile number changed since you first applied for the R370 grant? If yes, here is how you can update your contact information for the SASSA Social Relief of Distress SRD grant, to ensure that you continue to receive your financial assistance each month.
In this article, I will explain the process you need to follow to get your forgotten SASSA phone number and what documents and questions SASSA might ask you during the update process. I will also guide you on how to change your phone number if you don’t have access to the old, forgotten phone number.
Required Documents To Check Your Old Forgotten SASSA Phone Number
Before starting the phone number recovery process, you will need the following necessary documents:
After you have both of them, you can start your forgotten phone number retrieval process.
Where to Get the Reference Number?
If you applied for an SASSA grant in person in the office, then your reference number should be printed on the confirmation receipt given to you during the application process. If you applied online, then your application ID is sent to you by your phone number and email. So, please get your application from there.
Please don’t be confused with Application ID or Reference Number. They both refer to the same number that you received when you applied for your SASSA grant. That is a unique number that is used to track your application.
In case, you are unable to find your application reference number, then you can follow my guide to get your lost reference number.
Steps You Need to Follow to Get Your Old Forgotten SASSA Phone Number
After you have your identity document and Application ID, you can start the process to recover your forgotten phone number. I recommend you follow the in-person office visit method, as SASSA may also ask for biometric verification before providing you with the phone number details.
But if you prefer, you can try by calling the SASSA helpline first. Then, if they ask for biometric verification, you can visit the office to complete the process.
Recover Your Forgotten Phone Number By Visiting the SASSA Office
Please follow the below steps to retrieve your old forgotten phone number through the SASSA office:
Step 1: Find Your Nearest SASSA Office
First of all, you need to find your nearest SASSA office. Search on Google “SASSA Office Near Me”, and you will get your nearest office. After finding your nearest office, call them to confirm their opening hours. Most SASSA offices operate between 8 AM and 4 PM from Monday to Friday, but the timing can vary for different areas.
Step 2: Gather Your Documents
After finding your nearest office, gather your documents, including your Identity document and SASSA application reference number.
Step 3: Visit the SASSA Office
Now, visit the office during the opening hours. There could be long queues outside the SASSA office, so you may need to stand in the queue and wait for your turn.
Step 4: Request the SASSA official for Your Phone Number
After your turn comes, ask the SASSA representative that you are here to get your forgotten phone number. Explain to them that you have forgotten the phone number you used to apply for the SASSA grant.
Step 5: Complete the Verification
The representative will ask you for your ID card document and your application reference number for verification. They may also ask you for biometric verification to confirm that you are the real owner of the grant.
Step 6: Get Your Old Phone Number Details
After the verification process is completed, they will provide you with the phone number you used for your SASSA application. If you don’t have access to that number, you can also provide them with your new phone number and request to change it for your SASSA grant.
That’s it. You have successfully got your phone number details and can also change it to your new phone number.
Check Your Forgotten Phone Number Details Via Calling SASSA Helpline
The other method you can follow to check your phone number details is by calling the SASSA helpline. Keep your ID Card Number and Application ID with you and follow the below steps:
That’s all you need to do to get your old SASSA phone number details. Please keep in mind that SASSA representatives can also ask you for biometric verification. For this purpose, they will ask you to visit the office in person.
What If I am unable to get the Reference Number?
As I discussed, the reference number is important to get your forgotten phone number. But still if you are unable to get it, then you may try the above methods without the reference number. Provide your ID document number to the SASSA representatives and tell them that you also don’t have the reference number. They will do their required verification to make sure you are the real owner of the grant and then provide you with the details of your reference number and phone number.
What If My Old Phone Number Is Not Available After Recovery?
If you have successfully recovered your forgotten phone number but you do not have that old number available, then you can change your old phone number to the new number. You can ask the representative to change it during the recovery process. But if you forgot that time, then please follow my guide on changing your SASSA phone number.
Please note that you are allowed to change your phone number only once in 24 hours, so use this option wisely and make sure you are providing your correct phone number.
