Canada Workers Benefit Eligibility
Canada Workers Benefit is a refundable tax credit given to eligible individuals and families in Canada having low incomes. Generally, CWB can be claimed while filing the tax returns. Canada Workers Benefit is divided into two main parts – Basic Amount and Disability supplement. Each of these parts has different eligibility conditions.
One of the eligibilities for the Canada Workers Benefits is to earn a working income and have a net income less than the amount set by the province or territory. Each province sets its own minimum net income limit. The benefits can also be claimed by the dependent and spouse/common-law partner only if they fulfill all the eligibility criteria of the Canada Workers Benefit.

CWB Eligibility
The eligibility for the CWB Basic Amount is to be a resident of Canada, be 19 years or older on Dec 31, earn a working income, and the net income must be below the requirements set by the province. In addition, the spouse or common-law partner is also eligible if they are a resident of Canada and live with the individuals as their spouse/common-law partner.
The dependent might also be eligible if –
- Is an individual’s or their spouse’s/common-law partner’s child.
- Is not eligible for the CWB.
- Is under 19 years and lives with individuals.
Another part of CWB is Disability supplement eligibility. The eligibility includes-
- should be eligible for disability tax credit and have an approved Form T2201 on file with the CRA.
- net income is less than the amount set by the territory/province of residence.
CWB Payment
The amount to be credited to the eligible individuals or families is calculated using the marital status, eligible dependent, earned working income, adjusted family net income, province/territory of residence, and eligibility for the disability tax credit.
According to the CRA, the maximum CWB Basic Benefit payment issued is –
- 1,428 dollars – Single Individuals:
- In case the Adjusted net income is more than 23,495 dollars, the amount will gradually decrease.
- In case the Adjusted net income exceeds 33,015 dollars, no payment will be issued.
- 2,461 dollars – Families
- In case the Adjusted net income is more than 26,805 dollars, the amount will gradually decrease.
- In case the Adjusted net income exceeds 43,212 dollars, no payment will be issued.
- In addition, the maximum basic benefit amount will vary for Nunavut, Alberta, and Quebec residents.
According to CRA, the maximum CWB Disability supplement payment issued is –
- 737 dollars – Single Individuals
- The amount will decrease if the Adjusted Net Income is more than 33,018 dollars.
- No amount will be issued if the Adjusted Net Income exceeds 37,932 dollars.
- 737 dollars – Families
- The amount will decrease gradually if the Adjusted Net Income is more than 43,210 dollars.
- No payment is issued –
- If one spouse is eligible for a disability tax credit and the adjusted net income exceeds 48,124 dollars.
- If both spouses are eligible for a disability tax credit and the adjusted net income exceeds 53,037 dollars.
- The maximum amount for CWB Disability supplement payment will vary for Nunavut and Quebec residents.
CWB Payment Dates
The next CWB payment will be issued on October 12, 2024. If the individuals are entitled to receive Canada Workers Benefits, they can get up to 50% of their CWB as advanced payments. In addition, if they are entitled to receive the disability supplement, they will also get its 50% as advanced payments.

Canada Workers Benefit Login
Eligible Workers can claim the benefits of the Canada Workers Benefits if – they do taxes electronically and follow the correct instructions in the software or they file paper returns and submit Schedule 6.
