How To Fix Your SASSA “UIF Registered” Status

Share

How To Fix Your SASSA “UIF Registered” Status. Is your SASSA status showing “UIF Registered”, and you are unsure what it means? Well, you are not alone. Many SASSA applicants are facing the same problem. This status is because SASSA has identified your registration with the Unemployed Insurance Fund (UIF) and your active receipt of funds.

When you submit an SRD grant application to SASSA, they conduct various checks to determine eligibility. Among the many criteria, one requirement is not to receive other funds like NSFAS or UIF. To ensure compliance, SASSA examines the applicant’s details, including bank statements and financial records in government databases like South African Revenue Services (SARS), the Department of Labour database, and many others.

In this article, I will discuss in detail the “UIF registered” status meaning, the reasons, and how to solve this status issue to get your SRD grant application approved. Please keep reading!

What is UIF?

The UIF stands for Unemployment Insurance Fund. It is a South African social security program offering temporary financial aid to unemployed individuals, those on maternity or adoption leave, sick individuals, and dependents of deceased contributors. It is managed by the Department of Labour and administered by SARS (South African Revenue Services).

What is Meaning of “UIF Registered” Status

The “UIF Registered” status means that SASSA has found that you are registered for UIF or an active beneficiary of UIF funds. So, according to the eligibility criteria of SASSA grants, you must not receive any other government programs or private funds to be eligible for an SASSA grant. Hence, SASSA rejected your grant and showed that you already received financial support.

If you are not receiving it and SASSA unfairly detected that, you still don’t have to worry, as we are about to discuss the reasons and how to fix it to approve your application for the SRD R350 grant.

The Reasons Your Status Showing UIF Registered

As we discussed, the main reason is that SASSA has detected you as a UIF-registered beneficiary. So, it can be due to the following reasons:

  • You are already receiving the UIF funds, which makes you ineligible for the SRD grant.
  • You are registered for UIF benefits even if you are not receiving it. It can be because your previous employer contributed to UIF funds on your behalf.
  • SASSA mistakenly identified you as a UIF recipient due to an error during their verification process.

If you are disqualified for the SRD unemployment grant due to actively receiving the UIF benefits, you cannot be eligible as you already receive financial support. But if you are disqualified for any other reason and do not receive any UIF benefits, it can be solved easily, and you can become eligible for an SRD grant.

Step By Step Process to Solve the “UIF Registered” Status Problem

Before moving toward the solution, you need to know that you should not receive UIF funds to qualify for the SASSA R350 grant. If you are not receiving the UIF funds, then you can solve your UIF Registered status problem by following the below steps:

Step 1: Check Your UIF Status

First, you must check your current UIF status to confirm that you are registered for UIF or it is due to any mistake. You can check your UIF status from the “Department of Employment and Labour” website at https://ufiling.labour.gov.za/uif.

If your status shows “inactive”, then it means that you are not receiving any UIF benefits and can continue the appeal process to get your SRD grant approved.

Step 2: Gather the Required Documents for Appeal

Now, gather all your documents that show you are not receiving any UIF benefits and that your grant was wrongly declined. It can include:

  • Your bank statement for the last six months
  • Letter from UIF that shows that you are not receiving any UIF benefits
  • Any additional document proving you are not receiving UIF funds can strengthen your appeal.

Step 3: File an Appeal

Now, visit the SASSA’s website to file an appeal for your SRD grant:

  • Visit the SASSA SRD website via the link: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal.
  • Provide your South African Identity Card number and phone number.
  • Click the “send pin” button.
  • You will receive an OTP pin on your registered SASSA phone number. Provide it on the website screen.
  • Once OTP is verified, you will need to select the month for which your grant was rejected.
  • After that, you will be asked to provide the supporting documents. Provide all documents, including your bank statement, a status letter from UIF, and any additional supporting documents proving you are not receiving UIF benefits.
  • Now, click on the submit button to submit your appeal.

Step 4: Wait for the Decision

After submitting the appeal, you must wait for a decision, which typically takes 60 to 90 days. An independent tribunal reviews the appeals, and you will be notified once a decision is made regarding the approval or rejection of your grant.

Note: You need to appeal your SRD grant within 30 days after your status is UIF Registered.

What to do After Submitting An Appeal For UIF Registered Status

After submitting the appeal request, you need to check your SASSA status regularly to keep yourself updated with the status. Also, keep an eye on mobile SMS and email notifications, and if SASSA asks for any additional documents, provide them promptly.

If you did not receive any update even after 90 days, contact the SASSA helpline at 0800 601 011 to get an update on your status.

What Happens After My Appeal is Approved?

After your appeal is approved, you will start receiving your grant payments from the date you applied. If you did not provide your banking details when submitting your initial SASSA application, you need to update your banking details to receive your SASSA grant payments.
